Trust & Safety

Helpa is a marketplace for real-world help. Trust is the product. Here is how we build it.

Verified Helpas

Every Helpa uploads a government-issued ID and a selfie. Our team reviews each submission by hand and matches the photo to the ID before the profile is allowed to go live. Profiles that do not pass review are not published.

Payments held until you confirm

When you book, your payment is authorised through Stripe and held securely. Your Helpa is only paid out after you mark the task as complete. If something goes wrong, you can raise an issue before releasing funds.

Reviews from real bookings

Only Customers who booked and completed a task can leave a review. Each Helpa profile shows their average rating, individual reviews and completed-task history so you can decide with real information.

Messaging inside Helpa

All communication about a booking happens in Helpa. You don't need to share your personal phone number or email to get help.

How verification works, step by step

  1. 1. Application. A prospective Helpa signs up and completes their profile with languages, city and categories they can help with.
  2. 2. Document upload. They upload a valid government-issued ID (passport, national ID, or residence permit) and a selfie in a secure, restricted-access storage bucket.
  3. 3. Manual review. Our verification team inspects the documents, matches the selfie to the ID, and checks that the profile information is consistent.
  4. 4. Decision. On approval, the profile is published on the marketplace. If we can't verify, we ask for another submission or decline.
  5. 5. Ongoing checks. Reports from Customers, low ratings or safety concerns can trigger a fresh review at any time.

Report a safety concern

If you feel unsafe or need to report a Helpa or a Customer, email safety@tryhelpa.com. In an emergency, contact local authorities first (112 in the EU).
